About Me

My name is Martin and I'm in my early 60's. I live in a village called Poynton, about 10 miles south of Manchester, in North Cheshire.

You can tell from these pages that I'm a bit of a boring old fart, but I'm happy! I have two Sons and I'm very proud of both of them. The eldest one lives in Northern Ireland and works for a conservation charity. He's footloose and fancy free and enjoying the single life. My younger Son is Production Manager at local engineering company. He's married to a lovely local girl, they live nearby and have three lovely children - a Daughter and two Sons. That means I'm a Grand-dad - three times over - what an awful thought!

I live alone in a chaotic rented semi that has been my Family's home since 1936. I left to get married in 1968 and returned as a temporary measure when I separated from my wife in the nineteen eighties. My parents eventually moved to sheltered housing and I inherited the tenancy, so I'm still here. Unless I win the Lottery I'll be here 'til they carry me out in a box.

I went to school in Poynton and Macclesfield then became an apprentice in the Radio and TV trade. After finishing my time I did a variety of jobs associated with radio and electronics until I settled for long term employment. I worked as a Service Technician for a major European photographic company for a long time, then for a British manufacturer in Radiation Protection and Medical Electronics for eleven years, until I was made redundant in the early nineties. I was self-employed for 10 years after that until business dried up, then I did various contract jobs until I found my last long term employment.

I was involved in Radio and Electronics all my working life and I was fortunate that my jobs were always closely associated with my hobbies, so I nearly always enjoyed working for a living. Well, at least I didn't hate it. Until recently I worked as a test technician at a local Electronics company and thought that with any luck I'd be there until retirement age. However things didn't quite work out as I hoped and I had to leave on health grounds so now I am retired a couple of years earlier than expected. I'm beginning to find out that I was doing the impossible all my working life because now I don't have time to go to work with all the other things I have to do.

My ambitions are few, apart from a desire to be happy and healthy as long as possible. It would be great to win the Lottery of course. Mind you, I'm not greedy - a couple of million would be quite enough, thank you. That would be just enough to live in the style to which I'd like to become accustomed.
